D.A. Nathan Hochman Moves to Drop Charges Against Torrance Police Officers

The Torrance Officers were originally charged by Hochman's predecessor, George Gascon, for the fatal shooting of Christopher DeAndre Mitchell in 2018. Torrance Police found Mitchell in a stolen car with a fake rifle between his legs.

Sgt. Ted Tanouye Comes Back to the Torrance City Council

Councilmembers Aurelio Mattucci and Jon Kaji originally moved to rename Columbia Park after Torrance's sole recipient of the Congressional Medal of Honor as early as April. However, at the October 7 city council meeting, the initiative was shot down. The WWII veteran who gave his life will have a new chance at recognition this Tuesday at 6:30 PM.

Kevin Murray of Weingart Slips onto Thin Ice

The CEO of the Weingart Center, a homeless outreach organization which attempted to place a drug and mental rehabilitation facility at the Extended Stay off Torrance Blvd. last summer, has come under fire, prompting an abrupt resignation. A recent article by the Current Report revealed that Weingart purchased a senior housing complex for $27.3 million in April of 2024, despite the property being bought for just $11.2M a few months prior. The $16M flip is speculated to be part of a larger problem of financial abuse across Los Angeles.
